NextBUZZ – A Bus-Headway Controller
A software system to coördinate buses on a route, based on an idea by John J. Bartholdi III and Donald D. Eisenstein.
The original software for the project was designed and largely written by Loren K. Platzman.
Implementation was led by Russ Clark, Jin Lee, and David Williamson.
In partnership with Georgia Tech Parking and Transportation Services, NextBuzz was implemented in 2013 to adjust vehicle layover time based on real-time data. The system decreased vehicle headway and reduced wait times for campus transit.
Under the guidance of John Bartholdi, Manhattan Associates Chair of Supply Chain Management and former research director for the Supply Chain & Logistics Institute, the
NextBuzz system earned an
Innovation award from the Georgia
Transit Association in December 2014.
